How Criminal Cases Work in Dewey County

Criminal cases in Dewey County go through the 4th Judicial District Court. Felony charges start with an arrest and booking. The defendant appears for an initial hearing where the judge sets bail. A preliminary hearing follows to decide if there is enough evidence to go to trial. If the case moves forward, it goes to the district court for arraignment, pretrial motions, and eventually trial or a plea deal.

Misdemeanor cases move faster. Many are resolved at the first court appearance with a plea. Others may take a few weeks. Traffic violations are even simpler. Most can be paid as fines without a court appearance. All of these records show up in the Dewey County criminal court records system and can be found on OSCN once the clerk enters them.

For alternative records access, ODCR also covers Dewey County. The basic search is free. Paid subscriptions add features like warrant filters and document viewing.

Dewey County Criminal Record Expungement

People who had charges dismissed or were acquitted can file right away. Misdemeanor convictions with fines under $501 qualify with no wait. Other misdemeanors need five years. A non-violent felony with no prior record takes five years after finishing the sentence.

Deferred sentences get a separate process under Title 22 O.S. Section 991(c). When you complete all terms of a deferred judgment, the court seals the record and dismisses the charge. The clerk takes your name off the public docket and puts the file in a confidential index. Filing for expungement in Dewey County means submitting a petition to the district court in Taloga, paying the filing fee, and serving notice on the DA and OSBI.
